Safer Internet Day 2018 activities focused on online communication culture
In Estonia the SID 2018 kick-off event took place on January 18 then an invitation to celebrate Safer Internet Day during the period February 6- February 14 was sent to all schools, kindergartens and youth centers. In the invitation all participants were asked to describe and give information about their activities. All this information is included to the interactive map which is published on the Estonian SIC website. Together with the invitation all schools, kindergartens and youth centers received also a set of educational materials (thematic educational resources: lesson plans, videos, information materials etc.) for inspiration to carry out different activities. On February 6 Estonian SIC published a special edition of the EUCW’s online magazine dedicated to the SID 2018. The online magazine includes thematic articles which are written by different specialists working in the area of IT, education and youth work, also in public authorities. The magazine was disseminated via the Estonian SIC website and also via different stakeholder’s online channels. On February 6 an international conference “Better internet starts from you” was carried out in cooperation between Estonian Union for Child Welfare, Telia Estonia and the Association of Estonian Informatic Teachers. The Conference focused on online communication culture. During the Conference a discussion panel took place where among speakers was also a representative of the Estonian SIC Youth Panel. The main target groups of the Conference were teachers (school/kindergarten), youth workers and other specialists working with young people, but also representatives of public authorities took part.
